Pam Haff attended the State University at Albany graduating in 1991 with a Bachelors Degree in Social Work. While attending SUNY she worked for 3 years as a social worker at Teresian House Home for the Elderly in Albany. NY. She began her career at Wesley Health Care Center in 1991 as a social worker with both geriatric and young adult residents with neurological and head injuries. In 1998, Wesley Health Care Center expanded, building a senior living community called Woodlawn Commons offering both independent and assistive living. This was a great opportunity for Pam to become involved in this new venture. Pam presently works as the Resident Service Coordinator at Woodlawn Commons. Her duties include marketing the facility and assisting residents in accessing services to promote their physical and emotional well-being.
Some helpful suggestions for seniors:
- Be educated and informed. Gather information before there is a "crisis" that necessitates a move.
- Visit several retirement communities and compare their amenities and services. Some facilities such as Woodlawn Commons, offer a full continuum of care including licensed programs.
- The stereotype is that retirement communities are "nursing homes". In fact, they are far from it. We see many of our residents flourish in this environment. This type of setting promotes socialization and opportunities to become involved in activities and community events. We also find that having access to a dining area promotes a balanced diet and ultimately a sense of well-being. In addition, family members and residents alike are pleased with the peace of mind this type of living offers.
